We recommend testing samples in your application to verify performance of your design. These are frequently asked questions. For additional questions or for samples for evaluation, please contact us.
Q: Why would I use Groov-Pin threaded inserts?
A: There are many reasons:
Improve strength of bolted assemblies.
Avoid wear and cold-flow in plastics.
Greater clamping pressure in softer materials.
Resistance to vibration.
High quality standard threads without tapping.
Easy to install in drilled holes or molded holes.
Protect or repair expensive castings and moldings.
A: All Tap-Lok inserts should be installed with either the slot or hole end down. Our standard production tools and low-volume drivers should be used to install all thread cutting/forming inserts.

The
Barb-Sert can be installed either by ultrasonic method or by press. Our Vibra-Serts

Q: Can I use a screwdriver on the Tap-Lok slotted series?
A: The slots in the Tap-Lock series are not designed to accept a screw driver. Instead, the slots go into the hole first and are designed to quickly tap into the base material and lock the insert in place. Our standard production tools and low-volume drivers are designed for proper installation.
Q: What is the pull-out strength for threaded inserts?
A: Please see the performance data tables, at the following links:
Q: What are the differences between Vibra-Sert I & II?
A: Vibra-Sert I inserts are to be used in straight or slightly tapered holes. Vibra-Sert II inserts are designed especially for use in tapered holes. Furthermore, the Vibra-Sert I has a slightly higher pull-out and torque-out strength.
Q: Where can I use a Speedsert?
A: The Speedsert insert can be used in soft metals and plastics to reinforce threads when frequent assembly and disassembly are required. The Speedsert also can be used in applications where chips may be a problem such as electronics. It is a thread-forming insert rather than a thread-cutting insert providing no chips.
Q: What materials and finishes are available on the various insert types?

Q: What standards are specified for the insert internal threads?
A: High-quality internal threads to one of the following standards: Unified and American Standard Class 2B and Class 3B, ISO standard and Class 6H metric threads.
